Shardeum is a Layer 1 blockchain, a linearly scalable EVM-based smart contract platform that provides low gas fees forever while maintaining true decentralization and strong security.
Dividing the nodes in the network into smaller groups called shards separates the workload and allows for more parallel processing.
It also allows the platform to scale horizontally by adding more nodes to increase throughput. A network with more nodes will also have a higher degree of decentralization.
Shardeum also includes many unique features such as linear scaling, node rotation, load detection, and autoscaling.
Most platforms group transactions into blocks and enforce block-level consensus.
Shardeum makes a consensus for each transaction separately.
This allows you to process a transaction that affects multiple shards at the same time, rather than sequentially, as with block-level consensus. This reduces transaction processing time.
Another unique feature of Shardeum is that it uses dynamic node state sharding rather than static sharding.
While dynamic sharding is more difficult to implement than static sharding, it does allow for linear scaling.

A software engineer by training, Nischal also founded Crowdfire, a social media management web service with over 20 million users in the past. He is on the Forbes “30 Under 30” list.
● Omar Syed (Linkedin — 3.1K, Twitter — 1K) is a blockchain architect who started the Shardus project in 2017 to build a linearly scalable blockchain. For the past three decades, Omar has helped large organizations such as NASA, Yahoo, and Zynga build scalable, fault-tolerant distributed systems. Omar holds a Bachelor of Science and M.S. from Case Western Reserve University with a degree in Artificial Intelligence.
